Sensitization of Person with Disabilities and Community on Tree plantation Program held on 06.08.2020 at Fraternal Life Service Home for the Mentally Ill Persons, Ousteri

CBR DPO project is carried out for the last 2 years through Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS) which is funded by Collective action for Basic Rights Foundation CBRF Bangaluru. Tree sapling planting event was conducted on 6th August 2020 at 10.00 am in an eve of Independence Day August 15th held with Person with Disabilities at Fraternal Life Service Home for Mentally Ill. CBR DPO Project Co-ordinator Mrs. P. Soodamani welcomed the facilitator Rev. Fr. C. Joseph Arumaiselvam, Executive Director of PMSSS and all the DPO leaders who have attended the programme and explained about the purpose of the programme. Puducherry District Co-ordination Committee leader Federation President Mr. Anthonymuthu thanked CBRF and PMSSS, since implementing the project for the disabled, advising and guiding them. PMSSS, Executive Director Rev.Fr. C. Joseph Arumaiselvam explained about the environmental protection, the need of the tree plantations, the unity and the progress of the Federation of Persons with Disabilities stating the opinions. Then the sapling were planted with the blessings of the Director and followed by the DPO leaders, the PMSSS Finance cum Admin Officer Mrs. S. Bridget and the Coordinator Mrs. Soodamani. 20 PwDs (DPO leaders), 38 inmates of the Fraternal Life Service Home for Mentally Ill and 15 nos. of PMSSS staff participated in the event and planted 30 different types of saplings.



PMSSS with the support of CBR Forum organised a meeting with govt. officials Mr.R Kumaran, Thasilthar, Puducherry District., Mr. K.K. Vibhusnan, Deputy Thasilthar , Puducherry District., Fr. C. Joseph Arumaiselvam, PMSSS Director, Mr.G. Sakthivel, Director, 5th Pillar People Movement, Dr. S. Vadivelan, P.H.C., Rediyarpalyam and 31 member of Special Ability Persons’ Leaders. This meeting was organised to discuss and share the knowledge on the measures and the accountability of the Puducherry Government in Disaster management / Disaster Risk Reduction before and after when it happens.

The discussion went on for about 2 hours in the PMSSS’ conference hall and the participants were able to understand the Government’s policies, the rescue measures, evacuation methods, temporary shelter arrangements with accessible and friendly environment and so on. The leaders could spell out their needs and grievance based on their past experience during the Emergency. To conclude the sharing, it was decided to prepare a memorandum on this issue and present to the Puducherry District Collector. The meeting was arranged and organized by Mrs. P. Soodamani, Co-ordinator, PMSSS and Mr.S. Selvaraj, DPO Project Point Person, PMSSS was present in the meeting.


CBR program with the support of Caritas India and coordinated by CBR Forum Bangalore, continues to help the differently abled to gain their rights with a comprehensive development in socio – economic status for more than 10 years. The objective of the project is to identify physically and mentally challenged, to impart awareness on health, education, skill, to promote Self Help Groups and federation for effective advocacy and lobbying, to attain self sustainability and to gain rights at all levels.


CBR- PMSSS Annual event of CBRF Samarthya Award 2018 was held in Hotel Pallava Ambassador, Egmore, and Chennai. On 28th October 2018 CBRF promotes the rehabilitation and capacity building of more than 84,000 persons with disabilities across the country. In collaboration with 62 ngo partners through 79 programmes located in 20 states and 1 union territory across India.SAMARTHYA is an event being organised to felicitate the skills of people with disabilities. From CBR PMSSS Mr.Antony Muthu is selected for samarthya 2018 award. He is awarded under LIVELIHOOD category. Fr.C. Joseph Arumaiselvam (Director) PMSSS, Mrs Bridgit Selvaraj (Admin cum Finance Manager) PMSSS and Mr.Selvaraj (Project Manager) were participated and enjoyed the events along with award winner.


World Disable Day 2018 was commemorated on 3rd December in Puducherry District. To insist the Puducherry Government to implement 4% reservation in Employment & 5% reservation in Education & Poverty alleviation, the Rights of Person with Disabilities and sanction the entitlements to them without fail at the right time, the Puducherry Anaithu Matruthiranaligal Maruvazhvu Iyakkam organized a rally from Raja theatre to Jayaram Thirumana Mandabam where the state Govt. organized the World Disable Day function. News 7 channel interviewed Mr. John Peter where he shared the present situation faced by the Person with Disabilities. PMSSS staff of Programme Organizer and Assistant Coordinator participated in the rally and the programme.
